Immerse yourself in the isolated side of the Causses and the Cévennes in the South France, on this 7 night luxury holiday, where you’ll experience the cultures and landscapes of a territory which is above all a family destination listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the mention “The Causses and the Cévennes, Mediterranean agro-pastoral Cultural Landscape”.
Hiking or on an electric bike through small, almost deserted roads, we take you to discover the Cévennes and the Gorges du Tarn’s grandiose panoramas, climbing on the Mont Aigoual massif, a timeless territory of small isolated mountain roads, home to golden eagle, short-toed snake eagle, peregrine falcon… and a very diverse flora of orchids and endemic plants. Your adventure takes you to the large Caussenard expanses, which sometimes look like the Far West, with viewpoints that are more than worth it, until the Gorges du Tarn wildness that you’ll explore by canoe or paddle passing by incredible villages like Sainte-Enimie or Saint Chély-du-Tarn, listed as the “most beautiful villages in France”. Of course, you just have to discover and chill! Your luggages, transferred by us, await your arrival.
FROM THE HEIGHTS OF MONT AIGOUAL TO THE SPLENDOR OF THE GORGES DU TARN
Your adventure begins with the ascent of Mont Aigoual. On a clear day, you can see the Mediterranean, the Pyrenees and even the Alps. You’ll then taste the Caussenarde atmosphere for the next few days via the Causse Méjean, a vast plateau isolated by the Tarn surrounded by the Jonte gorges, and the Roc des Hourtous viewpoint, a superb panorama over the Tarn gorges. If you choose to bike, you’ll appreciate the very narrow and straightforward descent to the Jonte gorges with vertiginous views of the cliffs and limestone blocks until Rozier-Peyreleau, an impressive site at the confluence of the Tarn and Jonte gorges.
You’ll be taken by your knowledgeable guide to the Causse de Sauveterre by a small isolated road to one of the most spectacular landscapes in France, the Gorges du Tarn. You’ll savour its generous wildness by canoeing down the Gorges, wondering at every meander wich offers new landscapes to discover, passing by the troglodyte houses of Pougnadoires and the monumental Château de La Caze before savouring a picnic of local gastronomy in front of a hamlet accessible only by boat. You won’t miss the hamlet of Saint-Chély-du-Tarn, the other jewel of the Gorges !
Of course, you will not fail to savor the local cheeses directly from the producers like Pélardon, one of the oldest goat cheeses in Europe known since Gallo-Roman times, made for centuries in the Cévennes or the Pérail known since the 13th century.
